STOUGHTON / MADISON-Donald E. Swangstu, age 74, passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2020 at Agrace HospiceCare. He was born on May 8, 1946, the son of Edwin and Borghild (Olson) Swangstu.
Donald is survived by his longtime partner, Sue Vincent; son, Donny Swangstu; daughter, Becca Adler; mother of his children, Margaret Mulcahy; grandchildren, Lauryn, Stephanie, Camren, Kyle and Kenzie; two brothers, Sonny and Richard; two sisters, Elizabeth and Darlene; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Roger, Eugene and Edward; and sister, Betty.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery.

Condolences to my Uncle Don's family from Vernon, Alabama. I was named after him in 1965 and we have remained close throughout life. He taught me much about life and what it means to work hard and we have shared many great times together. He was a great man and would do anything to help anybody who was in need!! He will be missed. Rest in Peace Uncle Don!!

My deepest sympathy to Donny’s family. Donny’s nature and spirit is immensely strong and unbreakable. He was gentle, fun, patient, kind, respectful, and a most loyal friend. He was one of two, of the hardest working men, I ever met. You could always count on Donny for optimism. He was resourceful and fearless. Despite the challenge or obstacle, he was never intimidated. He would never give up. I never heard a complaint, always gratitude. I am thankful for having him in my life and will miss him dearly.

When I was 16 years old we rented a house next to the Swangstu’sin “Peteville” along the yahara River in Stoughton. I had bought a 1949 Chevy for 10 bucks. It had a cracked block. Donny (Bootie) nickname helped me find junked car at a farm. They gave it to us and we brought the engine to Peteville. The Swangstu’s had built a hoist with cables and chains in the woods next to their house. So Bootie and I loosened the motor mounts and bolts that attached to the transmission. The next day I went to school and Donny skipped school to work on our project. When I came home from school Donny had hoisted the old motor out and put the used motor in. The car was running like a dream. He did this by himself and he was 13 years old, I repeat, 13 years old. I later joined the air force and lost contact. I saw him at my brothers funeral about 10 years ago. My deepest sympathy to Donny’s family and friends. A remarkable man. Rest In Peace Bootie.

My condolences to all Donny’s family & Sue his partner. I worked with Donny for 15 yrs. Yes he broke the mold. He didn’t Need much to make him happy. He was Willing to do any job that you asked him To do without any complaints. Everyday He came to work with a smile & when I Was having a bad day I would find Two Charlie Brown cookies on my desk. I will Miss his so much & always remember his Comments: No Good, Not Easy, slim Pickens & many more. He always made me Laugh. RIP see you sometime again

I don't have any memories per say of my dear uncle. I wish someone could fill those in for me someday. But what I do remember are feelings. I remember how sweet and caring and funny he was. I remember how it felt to spend time with him. I remember, how he took care of us when my parents needed. I am devastated by this loss. And I will miss him terribly. I hope my mother meets you with open arms uncle Donny. Until Isee you again.
