Obituary
MADISON - Rebecca Louise “Becky” Bauman, age 80, of Madison, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026, at Oakwood Senior Living. She was born on October 31, 1945, in Mayville, N.D., the daughter of Alvon and Valborg Nelson.
In 1963, Becky graduated from Decorah High School in Decorah, Iowa and from St. Lukes Hospital School of Nursing in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1967. She was united in marriage to George Bauman on June 28, 1969, in Des Moines, Iowa. Becky worked in health care for 15 years and then worked at Wartburg Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa, for 16 years.
Becky found joy in many creative and meaningful pursuits. She was a devoted member of Midvale Community Lutheran Church and loved singing. She sang and directed in church choirs in previous churches. She enjoyed knitting, baking traditional Norwegian treats, and embracing all things connected to her Norwegian heritage. She was also an avid reader of mystery novels. Family was very important to Becky, especially her daughter and son and their spouses, her four grandchildren as well as her nieces and nephews.
Becky is survived by her husband, George; daughter, Cami (David) Matthews; son, Chris (Nicole) Wascoe Bauman; grandchildren, Margaret and Katherine Matthews and Grace and Griffin Wascoe Bauman; and sisters, Miriam (Gene) Takle and Galene (Doug) Erickson. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service will be held at MIDVALE COMMUNITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 4329 Tokay Blvd., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 15, 2026. A visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Midvale Community Lutheran Church, Agrace HospiceCare or Oakwood Foundation.
