FITCHBURG - Mark Caldwell Veldey passed away Sunday, June 14, 2020, in Madison from complications following a cardiac arrest. He was born at Fort Benning, Ga. on Jan. 29, 1963, and lived his formative years in Iowa City, Iowa as well as Port Edwards, Wis.
Mark had a daughter, Jillian (a junior at Baylor University in Waco, Texas) whom he adored with infinite love. He held her tightly in his hand from the moment she was born until his final breath.
Mark was baptized and confirmed as a Christian and practiced his faith through the study of world religions and the appreciation of people from all walks of life.
Mark excelled academically and graduated from St. Olaf College (B.A. with a double major in economics and religion - 1985), the University of Wisconsin – Madison Law School (J.D., law review - 1989), and the University of Chicago - Booth School of Business (MBA - 1998), all with honors.
Mark accomplished great professional success in the fields of law and finance. He clerked for the Wisconsin Supreme Court following law school and practiced law with Cook & Franke in Milwaukee. After business school, Mark pursued finance and investment banking. He traveled the world as Vice President/General Counsel (CFO) for Electronic Theatre Controls of Middleton, Wis., helping structure and close numerous mergers and acquisitions to help grow the company. Most recently as President to his company Entertainment Advisors of Madison, Mark served his clients with company operations and valuations, capital raising, and capital structure decisions.
Mark loved the game of golf and the constant pursuit of the elusive hole-in-one. He was loved by his family, circle of friends, and professional colleagues. He will be missed by many.

Jillian, your Uncle Josh and I are heartbroken for you. We loved Mark very much. One thing I remember about Mark is how kind he was to our mother. That was so special and meant so much to me. And I know how much it meant to Grandma Joyce.

I've known Mark most of my life. We grew up together, went to school together and roomed together in Madison for a few years after college. He was exceptionally bright, easy going and funny. Since he had moved back to Madison recently, we were looking for a time to get coffee but life always seemed to get in the way and this virus lock down also complicated our plans. Now I wish we'd found a way, but we always assume we have more time. I will miss Mark a lot and believe he left us way too soon. Godspeed Mark, may you know rest, peace and love.

Mark was my former boss. He took a chance on me for which I’ll be forever grateful. He was incredibly generous and was constantly looking out for how others were doing. We would have our annual baseball wagers, played golf together. I am truly going to miss him.

Mark was the CFO of my company and I worked for him for 7 years after he finally convinced me to leave the front desk and pursue finance. He's the reason I was able to work from home once a week when my daughter was born, he advocated for raises for my coworkers and I, encouraged me to go back to school, was a reference for me when I went to Epic and has stayed in touch over the years. Thankfully I got to talk to him a few days before he passed and though it was a very brief conversation, I'm so glad I got to hear his voice. I will always appreciate his feisty attitude and the playfulness he brought to our work environment all those years. We definitely had a fun rapport which I truly loved and have missed. Thank you Mark for always looking out for us and for just being you. I will miss you. Sending so many prayers to Mark's family and especially to his beautiful daughter Jillian whom he spoke of often and always spoke of with so much pride.

I was heartbroken to hear of my friend Mark's passing. He and I were law school classmates and practiced law together for several years at the same firm. For years, we lived in the same neighborhood in Milwaukee and would regularly attend or watch Bucks, Brewers and Packers games and otherwise just hang out. My fondest memories of Mark however are the years we spent together on the golf course. You really get to know someone spending 4 plus hours (usually walking/carrying our bags) most summer weekends. We lost touch for a few years when he moved out of state but recently connected again and talked about getting together. We shared pictures of our daughters who are about the same age. I could tell he adored and was so proud Jillian. Mark was a considerate, caring, generous, intelligent and competitive (in a good way) man. He will be missed. Nothing but birdies and pars Bud.
