Barbara J Cortes

MADISON - Barbara Jean Cortes, age 81, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at Agrace HospiceCare. She was born on Nov. 5, 1942, in Madison, Wis., the daughter of Emil W. and Aili I. (Maatenen) Johnson.

Barbara was a woman of strong religious beliefs and encouraged her children to attend worship and bible study. In addition to being deeply religious, she gave a lot to charity and to the church. Barbara did the very best she knew how, for her husband and children; she was very protective of them.

On the lighter side, she had a large collection of whimsical hats and enjoyed wearing them. Barbara loved radio contests and won many prizes as "caller number nine!" including a bike for her son, Andre. She loved taking long car rides in the country. She was multilingual, fluent in English, Spanish and German. She enjoyed music, especially Mariachi music and ‘70s rock music. She also loved dogs. She was loved and will be missed very much by her son, Andres.
 

Barbara is survived by her sons, Andre (Colleen Giannini) Cortes and David Cortes; and granddaughter, Chenoa Sime. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bienvenido Cortes; son, Michael Cortes; and by her parents.
