DEFOREST - Francis A. “Frank” George, age 73, of DeForest, passed away on Monday, Oct. 30, 2023, at St. Mary's Hospital. He was born on Aug. 28, 1950, in Carbonear, Newfoundland, Canada, the son of John W. George and Gertrude (Ward) George. Born at the family home in Carbonear, he continued to live in Canada until 1978, when he moved his family to Wisconsin.
Prior to retirement, Frank worked as a night auditor in the hotel industry. He was active in the Knights of Columbus and St. Peter Catholic Church in Eagle River. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking, golfing, playing hockey and fishing, and in fact, he coached youth hockey while still living in Canada. He cheered for the Wisconsin Badgers and the Minnesota Vikings and was also a fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Most of all, Frank enjoyed spending time with his daughter, Tammy, and her children.
Francis is survived by his daughter, Tammy (Scott Steffens) Zantow; sisters, Johanna (Herb) Homer, Olive (Gary) Peddle, Gertrude Case, Mary (Cliff) Clarke, Dot Richie and Patricia (Steve) Coons; brothers, John W. (Aggie) George Jr,, Tom (Lisa) George, Matt (Christina) George and Patrick (Debbie) George; grandchildren, Nicholas (Jennifer Peck) Timm and Ashley Zantow; great-grandchildren, Todd and Ricky Timm; as well as other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lawrence George and Dan George; and brothers-in-law, Jimmy Richie and Paul Clarke.
