Obituary

STOUGHTON - Donald J. Reineke, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at Meriter Hospital. He was born on March 28, 1944, in Madison, Wis., the son of Paul and Marian (Warne) Reineke.

Donald was a graduate of Madison East High School and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in psychology at UW-Madison. On August 17, 1968, he married Nancy Daley. Donald worked at the Mendota Mental Health Institute, then at the Winnebago Mental Health Institute, then finished up his career as a supervisor at Central Wisconsin Center in Madison, retiring in 1999.

Donald took pride in his collection of wooden duck decoys. He enjoyed canoeing and bike riding, and looked forward to the many trips he and Nancy took to Door County. He also enjoyed working in his yard, reading, going to movies and simply spending time with his family.

When he and Nancy became day care providers for their grandson, they would go on mini-trips and find something to look forward to every day.

Donald is survived by his son, Benjamin (Amie) Reineke; grandsons, Henry Reineke and Owen Reineke; sisters-in-law, Shirley and Evelyn Daley; good friends, Randy, Girard and Susan; as well as other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nancy; and his brother, David Reineke.

Don was a good friend of mine. I worked with him in Building 4 for many years. He was a great supervisor and actually saved my job when the director threatened to fire me! After he retired, a group of us co-workers would meet once a month for lunch! He had to stop due to covid , but I kept in touch by calling about every two weeks for years! Those calls were a gift to me! I was fortunate enough to see him few times before he passed. He was kind and optimistic and an all around good man. I will miss him!

My heartfelt condolences to Ben and the entire Reineke family. I cherish the memories of my conversations with Don, particularly our in-depth discussions about the Bible. His love for God and Scripture was truly inspiring. While death can be difficult to accept, Don found comfort in the resurrection hope promised in Revelation 21:3-4. This same hope was emphasized by Jesus in the 'Our Father' prayer. I often prayed for Don and his family, which always brought him joy. I look forward to reuniting with him in paradise. May the family find solace in the promise of eternal life and the memories of Don's unwavering faith Norman Ehiorobo
