Obituary
COTTAGE GROVE - Richard Lewis Howell, age 86, of Cottage Grove, passed away at home on Monday, July 29, 2024. He was born on April 15, 1938, in Mount Ida, Wis., the son of Harry and Lova (Vesperman) Howell.
Richard served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany. After serving honorably in the military he was married to Dianne McCloskey for 35 years. He was hardworking and employed by several drywall companies before starting RL Howell Drywall.
Richard was an incredibly talented artist and enjoyed working on model ships and 3D puzzles in his later years. He absolutely loved the outdoors, fishing, and hunting with his sons and grandsons. Richard valued every moment spent with his children. He especially enjoyed time with his only daughter, Dayna Sue.
Richard is survived by his five children, Dale (Kim) Howell, Dean (Tammi) Howell, Dayna (Russ) Baird, Darrin (Shawna) Howell and David Howell; ten grandchildren, Jasson Howell, Sarah Howell, Joshua (Tiffany) Howell, Andrew (Abigail) Howell, Levi (Jennifer) Howell, Lukas (Samantha) Howell, Caleb (Dee-Dee) Howell, Carlie (Eddie) Howard, Casie Bruno and Kurtis (Elizabeth) Howell; and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters; and grandson, Logan James Howell.
Richard placed his faith and trust in Jesus Christ during his adolescence and was baptized as an adult at the Faith Baptist Church in Monona, Wis. A funeral service will be held at GRACE BAPTIST CHURCH, 1801 S. Thompson Road, Madison, at 12 noon on Monday, Aug. 5, 2024, with Pastor Dean Howell presiding. Burial will take place at Dekorra Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday.
