James F. Brimmer

MADISON – James F. Brimmer, age 81, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2020, surrounded by his family. He was born on July 5, 1938, in Lodi, Wis., the son of Lester and Loretta (Fitzgerald) Brimmer. James was a 1956 graduate of Brooklyn High School. He married Mary Lee Levake on May 16, 1959, at Holy Mother of Consolation Catholic Church in Oregon, Wis. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves. James was a member of the Town of Madison Fire Dept., where he had been a volunteer since 1970, serving as Chief for 16 years, and a member of both the Dane County and Wisconsin Fire Chief Associations. He also belonged to the Winnequah Gun Club. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, camping and “tinkering and fixing” anything mechanical. In addition to Mary Lee, his wife of 60 years, survivors include his children, Janette Brimmer and James “JR” (Deb) Brimmer; three grandchildren, Stephanie (Charlie) Vandergriff, Adam (Allison) Brimmer and Allison Brimmer; three great-grandchildren, Harper and Claire Vandergriff, and Nicholas Brimmer; his two sisters, Bonnie Brimmer and Teri Brimmer; his two brothers, Bill (Linda) Brimmer and Mike (Karen) Brimmer; and other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister and her husband, Joanne (Dean) Millard. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at BLESSED TRINITY CATHOLIC PARISH AT ST. PATRICK’S CHURCH, 521 Fair St., Lodi, at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 13, 2020, with the Rev. Father Scott Jablonski presiding. Burial will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Lodi.
