Obituary
MADISON- Nit Suetmeier, age 68, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2020. She was born on Dec. 5, 1951.
It is impossible to capture with words the deep love that Nit had for her family. Though she did not have an abundance of wealth, her generosity was boundless, and everything she had she shared with her son, daughter-in-law, and three grandsons. She loved her grandchildren more than anything else, and nothing gave her more pleasure than to spend time with them. She was also the most amazing cook, and loved to prepare Thai delicacies for her family, friends, and neighbors. It was impossible to visit her at her home without being served something to eat, even if merely stopping by for a brief visit: out came the pots and pans, and the grass basket for steaming sticky rice, and soon a veritable feast would be underway. It was unheard of for a guest to set foot back outside the door before sitting down to eat, no matter the time of day. (On more than one occasion, this caused her son some frustration, as no excuse was acceptable for declining the proffered feast—not even if her guest had just eaten a heavy meal. But the love and dedication that went into her cookery easily made up for the occasional over-indulged stomach.)
Nit was also a passionate gardener, and had a plot in a community garden that she bussed to almost every day. If she was not home when her son returned from school, he could be sure to find her at the garden, hard at work tending her zucchini, Thai basil and peppers, cilantro, and other produce—all of which she either used in her Thai specialties, or gave as gifts to her friends. Nit loved all animals, and in addition to the several cats she kept as pets, she also left out seed and rice for the birds, and was continually feeding strays (on one memorable occasion, she even took up feeding a possum, much to the dismay of her son). Nit also enjoyed fishing, and spent a lot of time with her fishing pole at Tenney Park. She did not like putting worms on the hook herself, though, and frequently requested her son or daughter-in-law to perform that particular task. When not spending time outside, Nit would often sit down to crochet, and crafted countless blankets, scarves, hats, purses and pot holders. While she used many of these items herself, she was as generous with her handiwork as she was in every other aspect of her life, and delighted in bestowing them on her family and friends as impromptu gifts.
Nit is survived by her son, John (Elizabeth) Suetmeier; and grandchildren, Isaac, Owen and Titus Suetmeier.
