Obituary

MADISON - Edwin Laverne Kjin, age 94, of Madison, passed away on Friday, Feb. 3, 2023, at Oak Park Place. He was born on June 21, 1928, in Stoughton, the son of Gustav and Emma (Quam) Kjin.

Ed graduated from Central High School in 1946 and proudly served in the U.S. Marines. He worked as a Firefighter for the City of Madison for 34 years and enjoyed visiting with his retired firefighter brothers over coffee at McDonald’s.

He was a generous, caring man who was dedicated to his family. He was an all-city football player, a huge Packers fan and an avid sports fan. He enjoyed working out daily at the Princeton Club. In his retirement he had no troubles staying busy and worked delivering medications from local pharmacy.

Ed is survived by his nieces, Pernette Czosek, Deloris Warren and Kathleen Kjin, seven grand-nieces and nephews, and five stepchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald and Alvin Kjin; nephew, Steven Kjin; and niece, Donna Spors.

A private family gathering will be held. Memorials may be gifted in Ed’s name to Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg.

Ed was my stepdad. He was a loved and important part of our lives until the day he passed. Ed was a proud career retired Madison firefighter (a source of pride for all of us), a trivia genius and a walking encyclopedia. He was the most physically fit senior I ever knew until a serious fall sent him to nursing care/assisted living shortly after Covid lockdowns. Before that every morning he went to the Princeton Club where he would run into my ex and they would chew the fat. He spent many dinners as well as Packer game viewings at my home with my husband Jim (who adored him) me and my Sis. Jim would continue to go watch a Packer game with Ed at Oak Park once Covid restrictions were lifted. And because our birthdays were one day apart we always got together for lunch to celebrate. He loved us all dearly and equally and we him. Each of us had a special relationship. Thank you Ed for being a blessing in our lives. Always. We are family. With love and sweet memories, Margo

To Ed's family, we send sympathy on your loss. Jack knew Ed for about 35 years and spent many hours discussing sports, and other "worldly" topics. They enjoyed many cups of coffee over the years. He also loved my baked goods and lefsa. Ed will be missed. Jack and Sue Marking
