Obituary
MADISON - Gerald Robert Kiergaard, age 81, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2020, at St. Mary's Hospital. He was born on Oct. 11, 1938, in DeKalb, Ill., the son of Robert and Shirley Kiergaard. Gerald graduated from Ripon College. Gerald served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Yvonne (Anderson) Wolter in October 2000.
Gerald taught for the Madison School District for over 20 years and after retiring, was a substitute teacher for the Monona Grove School District. Gerald enjoyed bird watching, taking day trips, working with his hands, especially woodworking, puzzles, and trips to the casino. In his younger years he enjoyed biking. Gerald was a big jokester and loved cheering for the Packers. He especially loved his dogs (his fur babies).
Gerald is survived by his wife, Yvonne; children, Michael Lee (Teresa) Wolter Sr., and Joanne Wolter; grandsons, Michael Lee Wolter Jr., Michael Ryan Wolter (Chelsea McFadden), Justin Wolter (Alyson Daggett) and Amanda (Jacob) Erbe; two great-granddaughters, Ellie Wolter and Layla Wolter with two other great-grandchildren on the way; sister-in-law, Jeannie Kiergaard; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Jan Kiergaard and Larry Kiergaard.
