Avtar Singh Sandhu

SUN PRAIRIE – Avtar Singh Sandhu, beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather, age 80, of Sun Prairie, passed away on Friday, Feb. 14, 2020, after complications from kidney disease, a battle that he valiantly fought for many years. He was born on Sept. 12, 1939, the son of Rawail and Iqbal (Khara) Sandhu. Avtar received his bachelor's degree in engineering. He married Rupinder Pannu on March 4, 1963. Avtar worked as an engineer in India and Zambia before moving to the United States. He was employed by MMSD Milwaukee until his retirement. Avtar loved traveling and kept a keen eye on current affairs. He was very culturally aware and delighted in the experiences he had and friends he met all over the world. He was humble and kind, and had a quiet dignity that made a lasting, yet unassuming impression on everyone he met. He was well loved and well respected in his work and in his life. Avtar is survived by his wife, Rupinder; his sister, Rajinder; brother, Amarajit; daughter, Gurmeet; son, Goldie; daughter-in-law, Nancy ; son-in-law, Andrew; and grandchildren, Simrin, Isaiah, and Thomas. He was preceded in death by his parents. A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 17, 2020. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday.
