Eugene "Gene" P. Opsal

MOUNT HOREB - Eugene Phillip Opsal, age 83, of Mount Horeb, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2020, at Meriter Hospital. He was born on March 17, 1936, in Mount Horeb, the son of Walter and Ella (Karn) Opsal. Gene graduated from Mount Horeb High School in 1954. He married Patricia Flaherty on June 8, 1995. Gene enjoyed playing cards, especially Euchre, while having a beer or brandy and talking smart. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and never missed a game. Gene worked as a truck driver for many years and loved being able to travel across the country for his job. Most of all, his family meant everything to him and he was looking forward to being a great grandpa. His last wish was to have a shot of brandy and a beer with the people he loved. Gene is survived by his son, Mark (Anita) Opsal; daughter, Sandra Opsal; former wife, Burnell Morton; granddaughter, Kelsey Opsal; two sisters-in-law, Lorraine Opsal and Rubelle Zwald; and many relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Opsal; his parents; sister, Lola (Les) Shore; and brothers, Vernon Opsal, Boyd (Sybilla) Opsal, Dale Opsal and Leland Opsal. A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON CAMACHO MOUNT HOREB FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 500 N. Eighth St., Mount Horeb, at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 17, 2020, with the Rev. John Twiton presiding. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the start of the service on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family of Gene to be designated at a later date.
