Obituary

MIDDLETON-Fredrick T. “Fred” Moll, age 74, husband of Susan (Anderson) Moll, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, Feb. 3, 2020, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison. Fred was born May 10, 1945, in Madison, the son of the late Reuben W. and Esther (Snell) Moll. Fred graduated from Middleton High School in 1963, and then he pursued a career as a Union Electrician. He later joined Marshall Erdman and Associates as an Electrical Designer until his retirement. Fred also served in the U. S. Air National Guard for 27 years, earning the rank of Master Sergeant. He was a proud member of the Shorewood Hills Volunteer Fire Department for many years. In his youth, Fred spent many summers working on the farm under the expert tutelage of his Uncle Bill and his Uncle Walter. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. A lover of nature, Fred deeply enjoyed spending time in “the woods” making memories with his friends and family. Perhaps his greatest joy was spending time with his family and supporting his grandchildren in their many activities. Fred is survived by his wife, Susan; children, Becky Morgan of Middleton, Tina (Todd) Mancusi of Oregon and Andy (Cara) Moll of Madison; and six grandchildren, Jason and Abby Morgan, Mitchell and Kaitlyn Mancusi, and Cam and Ali Moll. He is also survived by his brothers, Phillip Moll of Lake Geneva, David (Lois) Moll of Waukegan, Ill., Armond (Sandy) Moll of Madison, and Daniel (Beth) Moll of Elk River, Minn.; and by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reuben and Esther Moll; and his uncles, Bill and Walter Moll. A visitation will be held at GOOD SHEPHERD LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5701 Raymond Rd., Madison, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020. A funeral service will begin at the church at 1 p.m. Following the service, Fred’s family invites everyone to a celebration of his life at THE LABOR TEMPLE, 1602 S. Park St. #106, Madison, from 2:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be put towards planting trees in Fred’s honor. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com. Instead of sharing a memory, I would like to share my feeling. Just being around Uncle Fred always made me feel like I was loved and cared for. He had a way making everyone feel like they are special in his eye. He made this world a better place.

My name is Kris Halverson and I worked in the MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) Dept. at Marshall Erdman with Fred. What a happy and fun man!! Fred's passing leaves a scar on my heart, as he was truly so special. Being a woman in the "good old boys club" of Marshall Erdman wasn't always easy, but Fred was never anything but kind and caring. When I joined the Monona Fire Dept. in 1998, he was so encouraging and it was so fun to swap stories and feel that secondary kinship that the fire service provided. I remember when he would talk about the land he was going to retire on with his sweetheart, and how proud he was of all those trees!! My heart goes out to Sue and to Fred's family and friends. Seeing his picture here makes me smile and cry all at the same time. He will truly be missed and was truly loved. Blessings to you all.

Oh Heavens, I am sorry to hear of Fred's passing. He, to me at a very young age, was a spectacular person. He was my close relative's special friend. I will remember him for all of my life. I am honestly, disheartened by his loss. He would have never known what he meant to me. But I saw him from a short distance. What a warm human being and special person. I still treasure the time when I got to know him. God Speed Fred! I was well before his most significant formative years but he obviously left a huge impression on me. Thank you for being my friend. Your link to the past, I remain your your friend, if I can be so bold to say so. JDS

Oh Fred! I think I can speak for all of us girls at Red Mouse, that you left a mark on all our hearts in some way shape or form! We will miss you coming in for lunch or just to sit and have a beer (on your break from doing yard work) and shoot the shit! You taught me how to make my first ever Manhattan!! You will be missed, fly high, rest easy and watch over Sue!!

I was in the Air National Guard with Fred from 1973 til his retirement, I was in his branch to begin my career and he and I both moved to different paths. Fred was our First Sgt. and took care of us all like a mother hen. We all relied on him and he came thru for all of us. RIP my friend.
