MADISON - Jerry B. “Hoss” Havens, age 71, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2021, at Riverdale Health Care Center. He was born on July 13, 1950, in Madison, the son of Roy and Hazel (O'Kane) Havens.
Hoss graduated from LaFollette High School with the class of 1968. He worked as a machinist for Ohio Medical Products, now known as GE Medical, for many years. Hoss also worked as a bartender for different taverns within the Madison area.
Everyone enjoyed being around Hoss, as he truly was the life of the party. He loved riding his Goldwing Motorcycle and was an avid sports fan.
Hoss is survived by his brother, Terry (Janice) Havens; sister, Nancy (Buck) Shulka; brother, Jeff Havens (Christina Hull); nephews, Marty Havens, Chris Havens and Brad (Lauren) Shulka; nieces, Alicia (Leon Hardy) Shulka and Kari (Craig) Pitzer; and many great-nieces and great-nephews and other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; nephew, Chad Havens; and special friend, Julie.

Remembering Hoss brings back a flood of memories! What a great friend a long time ago. He drove me to my wedding and I worked with him and "hung out" with him and enjoyed him like many friends do, and sadly, you lose track over the years and remember him when all you can do is grieve his passing. I am so sorry to hear about Hoss. He was one of my best friends in high school. My mother gave him the nickname Hoss back when Hoss was in 8th grade. He was named after Hoss Cartwright from the TV show Bonanza. If I remember right, from the show, it meant tough as a mountian but gentle as a lamb. He will be truly missed. God Bless his family and REST IN Peace Hoss.
