Obituary
MADISON-Sandra “Sandi” Shalkham, age 70, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2020, at Waunakee Manor. She was born on Aug. 30, 1949, the daughter of Donald E. and Ruth V (Rickrode) Hansen, in Erie, Pa. Sandi was a resident of Madison for the past 30 years, moving with her family from South Bend, Ind.
On June 13, 1970, Sandi married John Shalkham in Erie, Pa. Sandi and John enjoyed travel during John’s U.S. Army career. On May 13, 1973, Sandi and John celebrated the birth of their daughter, Stephanie. Sandi continued her education and graduated from the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in South Bend, Ind. She greatly enjoyed her registered nursing career. On Dec. 7, 1981, Sandi and John celebrated the birth of their second daughter, Elizabeth. Sandi continued her nursing career and worked in hospital settings, nursing homes, and finished her career in home health nursing. She continued to work as an RN until 1999 when health issues forced her to retire. Ever diligent, Sandi went to Madison Area Technical College (MATC) and was awarded and Associate Degree in computer sciences. She continued to work in Information Technology until she was too ill to continue. Sandi’s hobbies were varied but focused on arts and craft projects. She took great delight in cake decorating.
Sandi is survived by her husband, John; daughters, Stephanie Shalkham-Reneau and Elizabeth Phipps (Todd); two grandchildren, Jocelyn (19) and Bradley (13); sister, Kathleen (Jeffery), and brother, Donald (Judy). She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Ruth Hansen.
A memorial gathering will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Avenue, Middleton, from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2020. I am saddened to see that Sandi has left us. I met her probably 25 years ago through Group Health.
I always found her to be an upbeat woman even when times were tough for her. I have fond memories of her over the years. I know that she will be missed by many. Pam Sprecher

I am so sorry to hear about Sandi's passing. My heart goes out to the Shalkham family. Sandi was such a staple in my life and I enjoyed seeing her every month. She was always so generous with me and my family. She truly had a huge, loving heart. She was there through all my pregnancies and watched my children grow. She was always there with an ear to listen and shoulder to lean on. We laughed, we cried and I considered her one of my closest friends. I have been missing you. I love you ! Rest in peace my dear friend.
