Obituary

OREGON - Thomas M. McCauley, 74, of Oregon, Wis., passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Meriter Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Tom was born on May 3, 1947, in Superior, Wis., the son of Charles McCauley and Bertha (Antilla) McCauley. He graduated from Superior East High School in 1965. Tom attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he received a bachelor's degree while also playing football and baseball for the Badgers. In 1967 and 1968 Tom set both Badger and Big Ten records in receiving yards and receptions. He furthered his football career as an Atlanta Falcon from 1969 to 1971. On September 14, 1991, Tom married Jana (Prey) McCauley in Sun Prairie, Wis., at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. They enjoyed taking day trips around Wisconsin in Tom’s latest car to see what fun they could find in each city. Eventually their trips centered around which city their two boys had a sports tournament in. One of Tom’s biggest accomplishments was being a father to Alex and Andrew. Whether planning their days for when Jana had to work or rebounding jump-shots in his work clothes until the sun went down - he loved spending time with his boys. Tom’s love for sports and his boys found perfect harmony when he was coaching Oregon youth basketball or baseball. Those that were coached by Tom knew he had a knack for never sugar-coating but always knew Coach had their backs and wanted the best for them. After retirement, Tom spent lots of time with his sidekicks Bailey or Lily, the family’s Labradors. They could always be found walking the neighborhood, playing at the park, or relaxing in the driveway. Tom is survived by his wife, Jana; and sons, Alex and Andrew McCauley. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Bill (Connie) McCauley. A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1150 Park St., Oregon, at 12 noon on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2021. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com. Jana, Alex and Andrew. My sympathies to all of you. I am sorry to hear of Tom's passing. I hadn't seen him in a while but we would always have a quick chat when I would run into him at Kwik trip. What I really liked about him was his ability to tell you just what he thought about anything, especially sports. Keep all of the great memories close and hopefully it gives you some comfort knowing he was liked by many. Sincerely, Jim Snow

Dear Jana, Alex and Andrew, We were so saddened to read of Tom's passing. Think the last time we saw him was at Connie's funeral. I remember Tom at the East End restaurant...Chuck's little brother. Also how proud the family was during his years at UWMadison. We were lucky enough to see him play for the Falcons with the McCauley family. Our thoughts are prayers are with you and the boys.
