Uncle Maurice was the youngest brother of my father, Clarence. Maurice was 14 years older than me and he became my mentor prior to his joining the Army. When he returned from China we both lived at Grandma's house. He was my go-to-guy for advice. When I was 12 he invited me to Chicago where he was courting Mary Lou and the 3 of us saw the play South Pacific on stage, still a vivid memory. He was instrumental in advising me on an educational plan and career path. I respected, trusted and loved my Uncle Maurice. He will be missed.

Uncle Maurice was my favorite go-to uncle and the best example of a man in my life as I grew up. He was my godfather. My mother, Mrytle Dewane Nachtwey, always had positive things to relate about her younger brother. I still have a Christmas card he sent to me from China, and a mahogany box with inlaid ivory elephants while he was in the service. I still remember his wonderful laugh and the sketching he did that so hypnotized this little girl. He was a blessing to us. Forever loved ❤️
