John F Curning Jr.

John F. Curning, Jr., age 70, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2020, after suffering a stroke. He was born on Jan. 7, 1950, the son of Sarah and John Curning, Sr. John graduated from La Follette High School in 1968. He worked at Wisconsin Central Center where he met his wife, Pam and eventually went on to work as a correctional officer at Waupun Correctional Institution. He later transitioned to an electronic monitoring position for the State of Wisconsin until his retirement. John was an avid outdoorsman, loved to cook for his family, and was a fan of Badgers and Packers football. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren whom he adored. John is survived by his wife, Pam; children, Jessica (Jamie) Kuenzi, Cretia (Todd) Hentz and Derland Franklin; sister, Margaret (Timothy) Lourim; and grandchildren, Analise Franklin, Anthony Franklin, Tristan Hentz and Hailey Hentz. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sarah and John Curning Sr.; grandparents, Joseph and Leanora Capaci; aunts, Mary Capaci and Josie Hagen; uncle, Ernst Hagen; and cousin, John Hagen. A celebration of life will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive Madison, at 11:30 a.m., on Friday, Jan. 31, 2020, with a luncheon to follow. Please bring any stories you wish to share about your time with John. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
