Obituary

BELLEVILLE - Darlene Marie (Treptow) Strassman, age 65, of Belleville, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020, at Agrace HospiceCare surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Jan. 25, 1954, in Reedsburg, the daughter of Arnold and Lorraine (Lucht) Treptow, growing up as the second of four children on the family farm in LaValle. Darlene graduated from Webb High School in Reedsburg, Wis. in 1972. Afterwards, she attended MATC and attained an Associate degree in Business Administration-Accounting. Darlene was united in marriage to Gregory Strassman on Oct. 23, 1975, and had three children, which were the light of her life. Darlene also had a second family of coworkers at WPS, where she worked for over 33 years as a claims processor and adjuster. Darlene was a longtime member of St. Paul’s (Big Creek) Evangelical Lutheran Church in LaValle, Wis., until she later transferred to Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Madison. She was a proud member of the Packer Backers and was an avid Badgers and Brewers fan. Darlene was a proud “soccer mom” and delighted in going to all her kids’ sporting events. She had an infectious laugh and a quick smile. Darlene loved hanging out with her friends playing euchre and singing karaoke. For many years, she bowled on Monday night women’s leagues at the Verona Bowl, Kamm Bowl and Wildcat Lanes. Darlene was the secretary of her bowling league for many years and also bowled on a couple’s league. She rarely missed a party and always brought along her famous "Dar bars." Darlene’s easy-going nature and kind heart will be missed by all. Darlene is survived by her son, Brian (Jeri Esser) Strassman; daughters, Stacy Strassman and Kayla (Cody) Carlson; mother, Lorraine; sister, Karen (James) Zimmerman; former husband, Gregory Strassman; two sisters-in-law, Gloria Strassman and Michelle (Dean) Nelson; two brothers-in-law, Dave Strassman and Tim (Dawn) Strassman; nieces and nephews, Jason, Haley (Haydon), Ethan, Alexa, Heidi (Mike), Megan, Owen, Easton, Ellie, Tim, Evan, Pierce, Elizabeth, James, Matthew, Jeni (Jonathan), Tommy, Aaron, Joe and Wesley; godchildren, Kathy Raupp and Ben Kirmsse; aunts, uncles, many cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Arnold; brother, Donald Treptow; and sister, Joan Treptow. A funeral service will be held at MOUNT OLIVE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 110 N. Whitney Way, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2020, with the Rev. Jason Zobel presiding. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON FITCHBURG FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 2950 Chapel Valley Road, Fitchburg, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 20, 2020, and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday. At a later date, her ashes will be laid to rest at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery alongside her brother, Donald. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Darlene’s memory to be used to donate ostomy supplies to patients in need.
