Obituary

MADISON - It is with heavy hearts that we bid a final farewell to Jeanne L. DePrey, who peacefully passed away on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022, at the age of 85.  Jeanne was born in March 1937, in Eau Claire, WI, the daughter of John and Marian (Brown) Grawin. She graduated from West High School with the class of 1955 and lived and worked in Wisconsin most of her life.

Jeanne is survived by her daughter, Michelle (Bill Robbins) Honore; son, Dave (Tammy) DePrey; and daughter, Sandy Coppernoll; along with three grandchildren, Dan Honore, Joanna Honore, Austin Coppernoll; and one great-grandchild, Quinn Frenz, all of who she loved dearly.

Jeanne had a passion for life and a wide variety of interests, including anything french (she was a.k.a. Jeannie "DeParis"), painting, reading and sharing books with her book club, caring for (and singing to) her cat and birds, spending as much time as she could with her family and friends, going to Door County, and entertaining folks with her Ukulele.  She was committed to nurturing her own spiritual growth and that of others while being active in her church community at Unity of Madison. She frequently expressed gratitude for all of it and found joy in the simple things. Her positive outlook and joie de vivre was inspiring.

Jeanne brought so much light to the world with her fun-loving, warm and generous spirit.  She was loved by many people and often made friends wherever she went.  She really knew how to brighten someone's day and make them feel accepted and appreciated. She went out of her way to help and support anyone she could with whatever she could give, especially her time and attention. Jeanne didn't take life too seriously, which made her easy-going and easy to be with.  If you were lucky enough to spend more than five minutes in her presence, you were forever changed.

A celebration of Jeanne's life (open house) will be held at UNITY OF MADISON, 601 Tompkins Drive, Madison from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2022.

The family would like to thank the kind and caring staff at Sylvan Crossings in Waunakee, Cottages of Madison and Agrace HospiceCare. Memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare, Fitchburg  (www.agrace.org). Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com .

Various memories are floating through now from connections with Jeanne at Unity and especially on the Women’s Retreat team. Yes, such a light she was and always will be, a person to emulate in her uplifting ways, always exuding kindness. Such a sweet soul, in my experience. Both Harvey and I hold you all in our hearts during this time.

When I began attending Unity of Madison, I was delighted to find Jeanne there. We met through our work with women who were in addiction recovery. Jeanne referred many to me for trauma work. She was very caring and understanding of the people she worked with. I also have a fond memory of Jeanne reaching out to have lunch together, just because. We shared together about our lives. Jeanne had such a sweet spirit and was gracious even when she couldn't remember me. I will miss her!

Jeanne had a big heart and she shared her love with everyone she knew. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. She was personified goodness. I will miss her deeply.

My condolences to Jeanne’s loving family. I have so many memories of time spent with Jeanne. The two thing she taught me that I’m so grateful for is the importance of laughter, even if it’s laughing at yourself, and the importance of living one day at a time. I’ll miss you dearly, my friend, but your spirit will always be with me.
