Nadeen Strand

COTTAGE GROVE - Nedeen Leah Strand, age 77, of Cottage Grove, passed away on Friday, Jan. 3, 2020, at Agrace HospiceCare. She was born on April 28, 1942, in Madison, the daughter of Arthur and Romell (Skaar) Butterfield. Nedeen graduated from Madison West High School, Class of 1960. Nedeen worked for UW Hospital in admissions where she met her husband, Terry. They were married on Oct. 6, 1962. She worked in various other state departments before she became a stay at home mom, raising her two children, Romell and David. Nedeen returned to work part time for Gary’s United Foods in McFarland. She moved to the Dairy Science and then transferred to the Consumer Protection where she retired. She belonged to the Cottage Grove Historical Society, Model A Club and Post-Polio Group. Nedeen loved playing cards, especially Royal Rummy and Euchre, and enjoyed being part of a Euchre group. She enjoyed crafting, history and genealogy. Nedeen was a very strong and happy woman, despite the challenges of Polio and Macular Degeneration. Above all else, she most loved spending time with her family. Nedeen is survived by her children, Romell (Tim) Swanson and David (Denise Walsvick) Strand; grandchildren, Drake and Kayla Strand, Josh (Tammy) Swanson, Andrea (Andy) Long and Tyler (Sarah) Swanson; seven great-grandchildren; sisters-in law, Barb Rutledge and Kathy (Louie Firari) Strand; brothers-in-law, Jim (Alvhild) Strand and Ken (Heather) Strand; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Terry; and brothers-in law, John Chauncey and Don Rutledge. A memorial gathering will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 9:30 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 13, 2020, with a short prayer service at 11:15 a.m. Memorial donations may be made in Nedeen’s name to Agrace HospiceCare.
