Obituary
OREGON – Susan Mae Riehle, age 70, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2019, at St. Mary’s Hospital, at 8 p.m. with her husband of 50 years holding her hand. She was ready to meet Jesus. Susan was born on Oct. 2, 1949, in Madison, Wis., the daughter of Edward and Joyce Thompson. She graduated from East High School in 1967 and then went on to a nurse’s aide program at Madison General Hospital. She met George Riehle and they were married on July 12, 1969. They moved to Watertown to start their lives together and had two children, Paul, born on Nov. 26, 1969, and Cari, born on July 9, 1973. In 1974 they moved back to Madison, and in 1978 they moved to Oregon. They then bought their home in Brooklyn and in 1993 bought their current home in the Town or Oregon.
Susan worked as a nurse’s aide, then worked for Badger Prairie Health Care in Verona. After hurting her back, she worked for the Public Health Department and later she had a desk job for Jepa in McFarland. Her last and most rewarding job was with the Oregon Senior Center as an outreach case manager for the elderly. Susan, a city girl, and George, a farm boy, both loved animals. She owned many dogs over the years and really enjoyed taking them for walks or going fishing. Susan’s health took a turn for the worse in 2013 and was admitted to the hospital for kidney failure and heart problems. George retired from Madison Metro to take care of her. After struggling with numerous health issues, she died at St. Mary’s Hospital, 70 years after she was born there.
Susan is survived by her husband; children, Paul and Cari; and brothers, Edward and Garry. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1150 Park St., Oregon, at 12 noon on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2020, with the Rev. Mike Parker presiding. A luncheon will follow the service. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 3, 2020, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday.
There are so many supportive friends to thank, our church in Albany, the United Methodist Pastor, Pat Pluss, and Cari and her husband, Shane. The family would also like to thank all the medical personnel at St. Mary’s Hospital, Dean Health Care, Fresenius Dialysis Center, the RSVP drivers from the Oregon Senior Center and the V.A. Memorials may be made to the Oregon Senior Center. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

May you rest in peace Sue. I will miss your smiling face and subtle humor, as well as all those cherished high school memories. Condolences to George, Cari and Paul and may you find comfort in the healing presence of Sue's and your faithl. I know that she loved angels and is now amongst them. This saying (author unknown) was the source of much comfort when my sister passed.
Angels are the guardians of hope and wonder, the keepers of magic and dreams. Wherever there is love, an angel is flying by. Your guardian angel knows you inside and out and loves you just the way you are. Angels keep it simple and always travel light. Remember to leave space in your relationships so the angels have room to play. Your guardian angel helps you find a place when you feel there is no place to go. Whenever you feel lonely, a special angel drops in for tea. Angels are with you every step of the way and help you soar with amazing grace. After all, we are angels in training; all we have to do is spread our wings and fly.

I was fortunate enough to meet Sue when I worked at Allure in Oregon. When I made the move on my own to do a chair rental down the road, she followed me there. I have been her hairstylist for about 5 years. In that time I feel I really got to know her and care for her. I will never forget our conversations about hallmark movies, or trips that she wanted to take, or Christmas in general (because we both love Christmas movies). She was an amazing person, and I’m thankful to have met her. Sue, you will be missed dearly. Sending my love.

George, Paul, and Cari-I am so saddened to read of Sue's passing. She was such a wonderful help to my mom(Grace Schulz) when she was her social worker at the Senior Center. She helped us with so much and come to find out after meeting her, that I also went to school with Paul. My mom and I always enjoyed it so much when her and George would deliver the Christmas boxes from the Center in their festive Christmas dress! I hope her and my mom will get a chance to see each other in Heaven. My condolences to you all. Heaven has gained a very special angel! Cherish the special memories you all have of her and your times together. RIP Sue

George, Paul and Cari, Russell and I were so shocked to hear about Sue's serious condition most recently. Both her and I shared a Birthday in October 1949. We are very sorry to hear of her passing but know that she is no longer suffering. I was happy that her and George were able to celebrate their 50 years of marriage with family and friends. Our condolences.

George, Paul and Cari - I had the pleasure of getting to know Sue over the past few years as we rode together to her dialysis every Tuesday. We shared stories of faith, family and friends. Sue was a remarkable woman, so strong and determined to make the best of what life had to offer. She was an inspiration to me. My condolences to you all.
