Obituary
MADISON - Patricia “Pat” (DeLand) Kettner, caring wife, cherished mother, and beloved grandmother, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2024, at the age of 85, surrounded by her loving family. Pat's journey through life was one filled with warmth, love, and countless precious memories.
Pat was born on March 7, 1939, in Appleton, Wis., the daughter of the late Robert and Mildred (Sherman) DeLand. She married William “Bill” Kettner with whom she shared decades of love and devotion. Together, they raised two daughters and built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished moments.
For everyone who knew her, Pat was a source of happiness and brightness throughout her life. Pat's spirit persevered in the face of the difficulties brought upon her by dementia. She continued to radiate joy, warmth, and spunk. She moved to Madison where she enjoyed spending sunny afternoons tending to her yardwork, lunch with her siblings, and driving in her cherished red Volkswagen Bug to attend YMCA classes with her friends. Whether she was enjoying a game of solitaire, cheering on the Green Bay Packers, tackling a challenging jigsaw puzzle, Pat kept herself busy and happy. Pat had a passion for reading and could often be found sitting in the sun lost in the pages of a good book. She looked forward to visits with her granddaughters, exploring new parks with them and loved watching the girls grow and take over her clean house.
Pat's legacy of love, kindness, and resilience will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her. Though she may be gone, her spirit will continue to shine brightly through the memories she created and the lives she touched. Pat had a profound appreciation for education and science. In a final act of generosity, she chose to donate her body to the University of Wisconsin-Madison for medical research.
Pat is survived by her loving daughters, Joan (Alan) Dickrell and Jackie (Deb) Kettner-Sieber; and her grandchildren, Madison and Olivia, who brought immense joy to her life. She is also survived by her siblings, Gerald DeLand and Betty Thompson; and a host of other family members and friends who will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, and siblings Phyllis, Donald, Robert and Joan.
A sincere thank you to Agrace Hospice Madison, Springbrook Community of Onalaska care team, and Hospice St. Croix. Their dedication and care for Pat will forever be appreciated by her family. Rest in peace, dear Pat. Your love and light will forever illuminate our lives.
