Brian Gilbert Montgomery

FITCHBURG - Brian Gilbert Montgomery, 83, died May 2, 2024, in Madison, after a long illness.  The son of Gilbert and Hazel (Saeger) Montgomery, he was born on April 16, 1941, in Madison.  He served in the U.S. Navy, later following his father into the sheet metal trade.  The latter half of his career was in construction management including facilities engineering at UW Hospital, a job he was especially proud of.  

He was predeceased by his parents, first wife, Annettie (Germann) Montgomery; and a grandson, Jackson Cody Montgomery. He is survived by his second wife, Anne Kimber of Fitchburg; sons, Bradley (Maylin) Montgomery of Verona and Brian Montgomery II of Appleton; stepdaughter, Alice (Weston Epstein) Smith of Fitchburg; grandchildren, Bolan, Tyler, Maddy, and Cole Montgomery; former sister-in-law, Karen Germann of Stoughton; aunts, Mary Lee Curtin of Reedsburg and Lucille Busse of Madison; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A devoted family man, Brian participated with his sons in scouting activities, family vacations, and athletics, as well as accompanying his first wife, Annettie, to bowling tournaments all over the state.

Brian was fond of saying he marched to a different drummer. He was his own man, with many interests and a great deal of world travel. He loved laughter, animals, and nature. He will be remembered for outlandish pranks and many interesting collections. He is, and will continue to be, sorely missed.

A visitation will be held at GUNDERSON FITCHBURG FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 2950 Chapel Valley Road, Fitchburg, from 11 a.m. until 12 noon on Monday, May 6, 2024. Interment will be in Oak Hall Cemetery, Highway M, Fitchburg. His wife, Anne would like to thank Badger Prairie Health Care Center, the VA Hospital, UW Hospital, and Meriter Hospital for their care in Brian’s last years.
