Dearest Mike,
My heart is broken today as I learn of Joan's passing. I know the last few years have been very difficult for her, you, and all who loved her. Her obituary speaks so well of the woman I knew. I'll always remember the times working with her in her small but amazing kitchen in Iowa City, preparing for office gatherings. She was a bright light to those who knew her. While diminished, that light will live on in our memories. Please accept my deepest condolences and my virtual hug. May she rest in peace!

Dear Eva, Alexandria, Este, Joe and Mike, I want you to know that, to me, Joan was a most magical spirit. From our first meeting at the farm and my first Thanksgiving in Madison, she made me feel as if I had always been a part of the family. That sublime gift to me from Joan I have since seen repeated with others. Joan, a rare person who's freedom from judgement allowed her to see value in each of us with a heart as open as her mind. I will miss her and our yearly gathering of eclectic characters and delicious food. I feel for you all and include you in my prayers for strength and love for one another.

Mike and family..the world will miss her,it needed people like her. I will always remember her from the picture of her with the cowboy boots on, she was so happy. I'm so sorry that I never made it to the Thanksgiving bash, I always thought I would make it the next year...Frank Corken Seattle Wa.
