Lois Lorraine Rice

Sun Prairie - Lois Lorraine Rice, age 93, of Sun Prairie, passed away on Monday, Sept. 16, 2024, at her home. She was born on May 10, 1931, in Madison, Wis., the daughter of Alfred and Ella (Paull) Bailey.

Lois married her first husband Walter “Bob” Rice on Aug. 6, 1949, in Marshall, Wis.  As a young woman once married, she devoted her life to caring for her 10 children and helping run the family business, Rice Construction. Lois and Bob ran the business together for many years, but nothing came before her love of her family. When she managed to find some time for herself, Lois enjoyed reading. Lois was married to Walter for 33 years. Lois married her second husband, Carroll “Slim” Rice Jr., on Aug. 4, 1984, and they were married for 31 years.

Lois is survived by her daughters, Sharon Rice-Minoso, Connie Rice and Carol (David) Smithson; sons, Robert "Bob" (Deb) Rice, Rick Rice, Randy (Patti) Rice, Tim (Cindy) Rice, Dan (Joanne) Rice and Jim Rice; 10 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carroll "Slim" Rice Jr.; first husband, Walter C. Rice; daughter, Nancy Merlin; son-in-law, Minnie Minoso; daughters-in-law, Mary Frame and Randi Rice; sisters, Evelyn, Beatrice, Arlene, Violet, Helen, Beverly and Marian; and brothers, Marvin, Bert, Stan, Harold, Ken and Jerry.

A funeral Service will be held at Gunderson East Funeral and Cremation Care, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024, with Deacon David Hendrickson presiding.  Burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
