Our fondest memories of Fern are as next-door neighbors at Loon Lake. She (and Millie and Bonita) watched our two children, Sarah and Eric, grow from babies to adults; and so many times when they were little, we could find Sarah and Eric next door where toys were brought out for them, books were read to them, and stories were told of all of the Klug/Schloemer adventures! We are so grateful that we had one last aebleskiver brunch with Fern at the lake in early July (an annual tradition that goes back at least 25 years!). Loon Lake won't be the same without Fern!! We're so going to miss her!!
Our greatest privilege was accompanying Fern and Millie on the Badger Honor Flight on May 4, 2013 - a very special day that we will always remember!!

Fern, We will miss you. You are an inspiration, a lovely person and one that always had a zest for life. What a soul you had!
Our favorite memory of Fern is from just a few years ago at Loon Lake. It was a beautiful late spring/early summer day and we spotted her in the front yard along with a few family members. As our cottage is just two doors down, we could see that they were putting in the dock, so went over to help. Fern, as sprite as ever, wanted to lift some of the sections and said she felt bad that she could not help!!! We assured her that she most certainly had done it enough times over the years. As always, she was a delight and had her mischievous twinkle in her eye. As nearby neighbors on Loon Lake, we will miss seeing her in the front yard and on the dock relaxing and enjoying the day. I'm sure she is now a part of that lovely lake sunset. She will live on in our memory as we follow her example as stewards of the loons, osprey, eagles and the lake.
So sorry for your loss of this phenomenal woman.
All the best,
Carol Schubert and family
PS The eagle photos are in her tree
