Obituary
MIDDLETON - Susan Phyllis Urban, age 71, of Middleton, Wis. died at home on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019, after a brief illness. She was born March 12, 1948 in Watertown, the first child of Joseph and Sally (Linke) Urban. Susan grew up in Monroe, attending St. Victor Elementary School and graduating from Monroe High School in 1966.
She attended UW Whitewater for elementary education and spent her entire career, nearly 50 years, teaching first and second grade at St. Michael School in Dane, now called Blessed Trinity. Susan’s Catholic faith was very important to her. She was a kind and generous person to her family, church and school. Susan taught generations of students in Dane, only recently retiring but wanting to still volunteer with students.
Susan was the ultimate recycler, repurposing cloth into quilts, dried flowers into new greeting cards, and everyday items into art projects for her students. In her younger years she enjoyed scouting, camping and Campus Crusade.
Surviving are five siblings, Peter Urban of Clinton, Mass., Mary (Donn) Groom of Kaikohe, New Zealand, Paul (Kay) Urban of Monroe, David (Alice) Urban of Hudson and Matthew (Rhonda) Urban of Browntown; 10 nieces and nephews; aunt, Vanda Wiegert of Beaver Dam; and numerous cousins, friends and students. Preceding her in death were her parents, Sally and Joseph; and a niece, Heather Urban.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at BLESSED TRINITY CATHOLIC PARISH, ST. MICHAEL CATHOLIC CHURCH, 109 South Military Rd., Dane, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2019. A visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Saturday. Memorials in Susan’s name may be gifted to Blessed Trinity School. Sue was our across the street neighbor growing up in Monroe. She was one of the most gentle and kind people I have ever met. My favorite memory of Sue occurred one summer evening while we were still in high school. Several boys in Sue's class had been toilet papering the neighborhood, so we set up watch on top of a neighboring house armed with water balloons, but not until we had strung up the backyard with tin cans so we knew when they were coming. Sure enough they showed up and we pelted them with our water balloons. Sue was a distinguished woman of humanity and will truly be missed. My sincere sympathies to the family.

Miss Urban was the treasure that made Blessed Trinity so special. She is truly the most kind and patient person I have ever know. She lead by example of what it means to be a Catholic, and I'm so proud that my children had the chance to learn from her. She will be so deeply missed in the halls of our school and in our hearts! Heavens Gain!

Sue was my dear roommate and friend in college at WSU-Whitewater! She taught me how to play the baritone ukulele and we loved making music and singing together! Our faith was of the utmost importance to us and we enjoyed sharing our bond as we attended Campus Crusade for Christ gatherings. We joined Delta Zeta Sorority together. She was one of the sweetest and kindest people I've ever known! I'm so sorry I didn't get to see her for so many years. If the world could only have more people like her, it would be so much better! With love and prayers, I send my sincere sympathy to all her family and friends.

It was such a shock to hear this sad news. We knew Sue from the time when we were all very young, and the last time we saw her was just a few months ago. She was always caring and kind and smart. She must have been a wonderful teacher. We know that she was a wonderful friend and she will be greatly missed.
