Obituary

MOUNT HOREB-Walter Hugo Naujeck passed away peacefully at the age of 91, surrounded by family, on Thursday, Oct. 14, 2021, having lived a very full and wonderful life. Walter was born Dec. 29, 1929, to father, Hugo Naujeck and mother, Paula Thiel, in Neu Norweichen, East Prussia. The youngest of three children, Walter would recall fond memories of living on the family farm and life along the Gilge River. In October 1944, Russia invaded the area, and the family was forced to flee as refugees until April 1945 when the family was taken to Copenhagen and lived in a refugee camp for three years. Once released, Walter lived and worked in Germany until 1952, when he immigrated to the United States and arrived in Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin. Walter would often comment that he thanked his lucky star for landing in the warm community, where he became a successful dairy farmer of many years. Farming was his passion, and he thoroughly enjoyed a career of living from the land until his retirement. Once retired, Walter and his wife, Irma, traveled extensively and enjoyed many trips all over the world. Walter was preceded in death by his first wife, Christl Boettcher Naujeck; second wife, Irma Frodl Naujeck; daughter, Doris Naujeck; brother, Bruno Naujeck; and sister, Erika Straubhaar. He is survived by son, Doug; daughter-in-law, Dianne; daughter, Monica; grandchildren, Rick, Alex, Evan, Dana and Matthew; and family friend, Elfriede Jones. Funeral services will be held for immediate family members at a later date. In lieu of gifts or flowers, the family suggests donations be made in his name to Inglehaven Assisted Living, Mount Horeb.
