Obituary

WAUNAKEE–Andrew John Remington, age 82, passed away peacefully in his retirement home in Waunakee on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2019. He was a lifelong resident of Wisconsin. Andy was born on Nov. 23, 1936, and grew up in Mauston, Wis. Andy attended St. Patrick’s grade school, Madonna High School and Mauston High School in Mauston. The latter to allow him to take Agriculture and other courses in preparation to attend the University of Wisconsin in Madison. He graduated from UW in 1959 with a bachelor’s degree in Animal Husbandry. While in high school, Andy was a member of the 4-H Club and Boy Scouts. He won several awards for the animals he raised. As a boy he had strong family ties. He especially enjoyed Sunday dinner at his Uncle Bill and Aunt Annette’s farm with his cousins, rides on the family pony, lightening, winter sleigh rides and fishing on the Lemonwir River with his father, who was a mail clerk on the railroad. He enjoyed family travel to Chicago to visit his half-sister, Julia Buckner, and attending Chicago Cub baseball games. Growing up, his mother, who was a registered nurse, and his Aunt Helen, who was a teacher, kept him on the straight and narrow. After college, Andy owned and operated a farm in the Reedsburg area. From there he moved into investment management in Madison where he lived for the remainder of his life. He sang in the church choir, enjoyed relaxing in the cabin in Northern Wisconsin, and loved his visits to California to spend time with Helen’s son, Roger. Andy enjoyed sports and was a well-informed fan of the Green Bay Packers and the University of Wisconsin Badgers. Andy is survived by his beloved wife, Helen, and her family, children Kristine, Andrea and Roger; grandchildren, Nick, Katie, Ben, Tania, Alex and Josh; great-grandson, Kenny; his sister and brother-in-law, Joelle and Fred Ferguson; cousin, Steve Tremain; and many nieces and nephews, including Christine Thompson, Scott Ferguson, Erin Crow, Steve Ferguson and Paula Walker. A memorial service will be held at ADVENT LUTHERAN CHURCH, 7118 Old Sauk Road, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2019, with the Rev. Nick Utphall presiding. Burial will be held at First Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the start of the service on Thursday.
