Obituary

MADISON - Amy Jo Brendler, age 82, of Madison, passed away peacefully at home with family at her side on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2022. She was born on June 12, 1940, in Madison, the daughter of William and Wanda (Pagel) Voges.

Amy graduated from Monona Grove High School in 1958 where she made lifetime friends. She married John Brendler later that year on Sept. 27, 1958, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. They would have celebrated their 64th wedding Anniversary on September 27th.

Amy worked as an administrative assistant in Madison, retiring from Wisconsin Children's Service Society. She was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church and Messiah Lutheran Church for many years and involved in numerous activities. Amy enjoyed knitting, sewing and crafting, and she took pride in taking care of her home and decorating for holidays. Amy was also very proud of her grandchildren and created many of their favorite theme cakes on their birthdays. She will be fondly remembered for her thoughtfulness in sending greeting cards and special care packages. She especially liked attending classic car shows with her husband, John. Her infectious laughs came from making people smile and giggle with her funny shenanigans.

Amy is survived by her husband, John; son, John (Tina) Brendler Jr.; daughter, Laurie (Bob) Howard; brother, Daniel Voges; sister, Maribeth (Jim) Stone; grandchildren, Tyler (Kyleigh Twaroski) Brendler, John (Briana) Howard, Christi (Corey) Mason, Joshua Brendler and Joe Howard; and great-grandchildren, Everly, Bo and Reece Mason and Madison Howard; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, William Voges.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Agrace HospiceCare or the Alzheimer's and Dementia Alliance of Wisconsin would be appreciated by the family. Their outstanding guidance and care have been invaluable to Amy and her family. The family would also like to thank Dr. Musa and staff for their compassionate care. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com to reflect on the wonderful memories.

At Amy’s request, there will not be a visitation or funeral and we would ask that you reflect upon your wonderful memories of her.

John and family: So sorry to read the passing of Amy. Since Covid invaded all our lives three years ago I have failed to keep in contact with so many people. Amy was such a good person, everytime I'd stop by your house on Panther Tr. to do some work both Amy and John were always there to greet me and invite me in for coffee. I'll miss her and should have tried harder to visit you both more often.

Dear Family of Amy, I heard of Amy's passing while in church (Messiah) this past Sunday. I was so very sorry to hear this. I worked with Amy at Children's Service Society but she was so much more than a work colleague. She was my mentor and friend. We kept in touch over the holidays, and we said we should get together but we just didn't make that happen...I sure regret this now): My sincere condolences to all of you. I hope that you are finding comfort with your family and all who loved Amy. Amy Steuer
