Carl William Brown

“It ain’t dying I’m talking about, it’s living. I doubt it matters where you die, but it matters where you live.” –Robert Duvall as Gus McCrae in the “Lonesome Dove.” Carl W. “Buck” Brown loved Western movies and most any movie from his generation. Among other things, he loved sports, specifically football and baseball and was an avid Wisconsin Badger Football, Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers fan. He was a passionate golfer and enjoyed watching it on TV as well, even though most of us thought it was worse that watching paint dry. Carl was born to George and Lillian (Olson) Brown, December 8, 1927. One of his best qualities was his bluntness and his no “bs” kind of attitude. He maintained a strong work ethic throughout his life; starting by lying about his age and joining the Merchant Marines at age 15. From there he joined the U.S. Marine Corps (age 16) and was a member of “C” Company, 1st Battalion, 2nd Marines Division, Fleet Marine Force. While serving his country he saw action in Kwajalein, Saipan and Okinawa. After Saipan he was transferred to the 6th Marines. He was also in Japan for the signing of the treaty to end World War II. June 4, 1949, he married the love of his life; Donna Mae Peschel and had three children. He owned and operated a successful business for 50 plus years. Carl is survived by his sons, Gary (Betsy) Brown, Scott Brown and daughter, Cathy (Jeff) Root; grandsons, Keith Brown, Patrick Root, Eric (Jennifer) Root and granddaughters, Kelly Brown (Rey Farias) and Colleen (James) Rios; great-granddaughters, Pricilla Rios and Gracie Farias; brother, Pete Brown (Jill) and Donna Georgeson; and nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna (October 2018); his parents; sister, Char Knapp; and brother, Lee Brown. A graveside service will be held at HIGHLAND MEMORY GARDENS, 3054 Cty Hwy BB, Cottage Grove, at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2019. A big thank you to the staff at the William S.
