MADISON-Paul Kenneth Armstrong, age 72, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2019. He was born on March 5, 1947, in Madison, the son of John Armstrong and Grace Botham Armstrong. Paul graduated from Edgewood High School in 1965. He started, owned, and operated multiple businesses, including Armstrong Improvements, The Dahle House Bed & Breakfast in Mount Horeb, and Middleton Sports Cards on University Avenue, a sports memorabilia store. In 1984, he married Mary Jane Allen, and they had three children together, Robert, Cooper and Gracie.
Paul was in involved with Strollers Theatre and Madison Theatre Guild for many years, both acting and directing, and was part of more than 50 performances. He was a member of the Wisconsin Badgers football team beginning in 1965. Paul loved all Wisconsin sports, particularly the Badgers and the Packers. He loved spending time with his children, friends and family, and helping people however possible. He also always enjoyed watching and discussing television and films. Paul is survived by his sons, Cooper and Robert; daughter, Gracie; brother, George; sister, Kay; sisters-in-law, Lois and Elsie; and his ex-wife, Mary Jane Allen Armstrong. He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Jerry, Virginia, Thomas, Jack, Charlotte and Sally. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL & CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, May 13, 2019. Due to roadwork on University Avenue, please use the entrance on Elmwood Avenue. Remembrances may be made in the form desired by friends and family. We have only wonderful memories of sharing life with Paul and his children! His zest for joy and his complete love of others was a gift for every one he came in touch with. Our kids shared wonderful times at Eagle School and beyond. A long time ago, I would sit in the corner and watch him paint an entire room in what seemed like minutes. I can still close my eyes and watch him. May his entire family be blessed with comfort in knowing how deeply this man loved you.

Have fond memories of Paul and his brother Jack. I do hope that someone has recorded his parody of Big Bad John--about a sewer worker named Welt. Cracks me up every time I think about the song.

Hmmm...many memories of Paul. He loved watching his kids play sports, especially Cooper playing basketball. We would dissect the games, and he would always remind me that to avoid a travel you must “establish the pivot foot.” And of course who can forget him bellowing “REBOUND!” I had the privilege to see him perform in “One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest.” He was fabulous. Paul was a true Madison original. So sad to see him go.

Memories with Paul were always a highlight of my childhood. Going over to his house talking, eating KFC, reading the cool old comics going up to love Marvel and Dc. Seeing him and cookie together laughing chatting around the table eating melon in the summer by the pool. I will say this Paul will always have a place in my heart, he infuenced me to be a kind soul, a good daughter his mind was wise and I will never forget you. Rest In Peace xoxo

Paul was always more than a brother-in-law. He helped me in so many ways with my family. Brought laughter to us whenever he was around. He loved being around the young and always encouraging them in whatever they were doing. He was a natural entertainer and always had kind words about people. He will be missed but never forgotten.
