JoAnn P. Payne

MADISON/Menomonee Falls - JoAnn P. Payne, age 88, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 3, 2019, at Agrace HospiceCare. She was born on May 27, 1930, the daughter of Joseph and Bess (Brown) Olsen. JoAnn attended Cornell College in Mount Vernon, IA. She married Kenneth Payne on April 3, 1950, in Milwaukee. She worked as a teacher's aide for Menomonee Falls East High School. JoAnn first and foremost enjoyed her family, friends, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a warm and loving way of welcoming and accepting people, with an easy laugh and an amazing sense of humor. JoAnn loved to read a wide range of books, stacks of which covered her living room and night stand. She loved puzzles, particularly word puzzles, and was an avid Scrabble player. She also enjoyed camping and being outdoors. JoAnn loved to sew and to cook; laughing about her occasional disaster amid the many successes. In her retirement, she explored watercolor painting, and her family has enjoyed displaying her pieces in their homes. And although her diminished eyesight did not allow her to pursue most of these interests in her later years, she remained a committed Milwaukee Brewers fan (and admired the Cubs) until her final days. JoAnn is survived by her sons, Randy (Susanne), Mark (Anita) and Rog; grandchildren, Tim (Jessica) Payne, Stephanie (William) Capecchi, Maria, Jim, Eric and John Payne; great-grandchildren, Landon and Miles Payne; sister, Marilyn (Paul) Moeller; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her daughter, Karen Payne. Memorial services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 12, 2019. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service. The family wishes to thank Agrace HospiceCare for their compassionate care for JoAnn through her final days.
