MADISON - Mary Theresa Pullara, age 96, of Madison, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2024, at Agrace HospiceCare. She was born on January 10, 1928, in Madison, at St. Mary’s Hospital, the daughter of Frank and Muriel (Gaffney) Andreas.
Mary grew up on the family farm in Paoli and graduated from Edgewood High School in 1946. She met the love of her life, Tony Pullara, at Turner Dance Hall in 1947 and they were married on October 23, 1948. Their song was, ‘To Each His Own,’ by Eddie Howard, Mary listened to the song every day.
Mary worked as a telephone operator for Wisconsin Telephone Company and also trained colleagues on how to operate the switchboard. Mary later worked in the Insurance Department at Dean Clinic. After the passing of her husband, she became involved in the Kayra Club, a widow and widowers club, where she served as president and vice president. Mary loved to paint, do crafts, dance and listen to music, especially Elvis and Daniel O’Donnell.
Mary loved her family very much and thanked God for the life she had with her husband, Tony, and their five children, 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was well-liked and well loved by her family and many friends. She will be fondly remembered for her quick Irish wit.
Mary is survived by her five children, Jimmy Pullara, Rita (Doug) Wipperfurth, Theresa (Billy) Mordecai, Casper "Butch" (Nancy) Pullara and Mary Irene (Mike) Carlson; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tony; parents, Frank and Muriel; brothers and sisters, Margaret Anderson, John, Jimmy, Tony, Charlie and Paul Andreas and Cora Crawford.
A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON FITCHBURG FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 2950 Chapel Valley Road, Fitchburg, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2024. Burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
