Obituary

STOUGHTON/BELMONT-Dorothy Ann Speth, age 85, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at Skaalen Nursing Home.

Dorothy was born January 16, 1937 to Earnest and Mary Bloom. She graduated from UW-Platteville, taught at Sparta and then married Lester Sr in 1961. She worked at Land’s End and she and Lester farmed and retired in the Belmont area until February 2015 when they moved to Stoughton. Dorothy volunteered many hours at Skaalen Nursing Home creating many friendships,  and she especially enjoyed her “sisterhood” with Barbel each day. Dorothy was a ray of sunshine to everyone she would meet. She had a quiet faith and enjoyed chapel time, a love for reading, gardening, and delicious homemade food (especially anything with bacon!). One of her greatest joys was her family.

Dorothy is survived by two of her children: Jeff (Sue) Speth, Marshfield, Butch (Julie) Speth, Stoughton and daughter-in-law Pam (Dan Graber) Speth, Mineral Point. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Ben, Joe, Sam (Alicia), Jenny (Marcus) Geishert, Tom (Amanda), Breanna (Brett) Butler, Dana, Kaylin and four great grandchildren: Gwendelynn & Gracelyn Speth, Barrett & baby girl Geishert due in April 2022, many nieces and nephews, special cousin Jean, cousins and dear friends at Skaalen. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lester, Sr., son Scott, and brothers Tom and Kenny, Sr. Bloom.  

Per Dorothy’s wishes, a celebration of life service will be held at Skaalen at a later date. A private family burial will be held later this month. The family would like to thank Dr.Agni, St. Mary’s Hospital, Agrace Hospice, and Skaalen Nursing Home Staff. We appreciate all the prayers and support through this journey called life. I think I met Dorothy only once or twice and found her to be very warm with a pleasant way about her. I know her family and friends will miss her. May she rest In Peace with all family who have deceased before her. Love to all, Norma Holt

I remember all our holidays squished into Grandma Bloom's house. Going with Grandma over to Aunt Dorothy and Uncle Lester's house. Dorothy was an awesome cook! All the Sundays at Country Kitchen with Dorothy, Lester, Joyce, Barney, My dad and mom. The laughs were great and listening to the stories. I imagine they are all together tell more stories! ❤❤❤

My sincere sympathy to Dorothy's family. I worked with Dorothy at land's End. I was originally from Belmont too and we knew many of the same people-sharing knowledge of goings on at break. May she rest in peace.
