Obituary

J. Diane Wheeler was born in Denver, Colo., on April 16, 1947. Her early years were spent in Denver and Littleton, and she graduated from Littleton High School. Her family moved to Glenwood Springs in 1967. She attended Western State College, Mesa State University, and Arapahoe College, where she received her Paralegal certification.

In 1968 she married Scott Balcomb and they had two beloved children, Rue and Bo. She was active in the Garfield County Republican Party and was an organizer in Ducks Unlimited. Diane and Scott later divorced, and she moved to Boulder City, Nev., to help her parents, Dick and Peg Wheeler. After they passed away, she joined Bo and his family, first in Ohio, and then in Wisconsin. She adored her grandchildren Spencer, Blake, Peyton, and Madison, and was all smiles when they were around.

Diane’s life was enriched by her love for her children, her grandchildren, and for her dogs, Edae and Louie, and grand-dogs. She was an excellent seamstress, stained glass artist, and was famous for her green thumb.

Diane passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2026. She is survived by sisters, Sandy Boyd (Bob) of Glenwood Springs, Colo., and Sue Franks (Terry) of Cody, Wyo.; her two children, Rue and Bo; and all her grandchildren, nieces and nephews, Steve Boyd and Donna Boyd, Sarah McMillen and Zach Bates.

Diane was fun, ornery, stubborn, and had a great sense of humor. She will be missed. Private services are planned at this time. Donations in her name can be sent to CARE or Advocate Safehouse in Glenwood Springs.
