Obituary
MADISON - Hazel H. Deacon, age 88 passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2019, at Chamomile Assisted Living. She was born on July 6, 1931, the daughter of Florzel and Hilda Myers. Hazel married Kenneth Currie on June 20, 1949. With this union, they were blessed with nine children. He preceded her in death on Feb. 1, 1969. She later married Martin Deacon on Oct. 9, 1971. Hazel worked as a certified nursing assistant for Central Wisconsin Center for 22 years, retiring on Jan. 30, 1997.
Hazel was a loving, caring mother who freely gave to others. Her kids came first in her life and she gave all of them the same opportunities, never favoring one over the other. Hazel was one of a kind; she believed in doing her best and always gave her very best. Hazel was a very meticulous homemaker; loved to dance, enjoyed cooking and cared for her neighbors, which led to her being very respected in her neighborhood. To know her was to love her. She loved her God Jehovah and was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witness on Aug. 7, 2004.
Hazel is survived by her husband, Martin Deacon; sister, Monica Blackwood; brothers, Owen and Lloyd Myers; nine children, Floyd (Kay) Currie, Leonard (Davia) Currie, Victor Currie, Owen Currie (Marcia) Maxine (Kerio) Currie, Roger (Ann) Currie, Reum Currie, Sheron (Terry) Currie and Marcia (Raul) Currie-Watson; 16 grandchildren, Nicola Currie, Isaiah Currie, Marissa (Christos) Constantas, McKenzie Currie, I-eem Currie, Junius (Lauren) Currie, Nikki (Josh) Dean, India Currie, Charles Anderson, Krisauny Grand, Kerron Grant, Nicolle Hill, Jamuga (Jessica) Watson, Imru Currie and Jael Currie; and 16 great-grandchildren, La'Zae Currie, Arianna Farmer, Jada Anderson, Maureece Anderson, Malachi Currie, Zhoie McGee, Elijah, Isaiah, Iailah, Noah Currie, Keila Watson, Kavion Currie, Michael Earl Jr. , La'Naya and A'Miyah Currie. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Kenneth Currie; and her parents, Hilda and Florzel Myers.
Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2019. Burial will be held at SUNSET MEMORY GARDENS, Madison on Friday, Sept. 20, 2019. Burial processional will depart from the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. A service in honor of Hazel will be held at the KINGDOM HALL OF JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES, 5475 Portage Road, Madison, at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019. A celebratory meal will follow.

Hazel was indeed a gem. She welcomed my family into her space with open arms. She will never be forgotten. She would light up every room she entered, and was the best dancer in our crowd. Martin, It’s me Bobby Dunn your friend. I am very sorry to hear that your wife Hazel passed away. I remember when I was hanging out at your Jamerica Restaurant last summer when you were retiring Jamerica. I had lived in Madison for most my life and remember that I had told you that I now live in Nebraska. During the time when you were retiring Jamerica, remember that I was often parking my Chevy S10 pickup truck in front of Jamerica and I was also across the street at Willy Street Coop and I was standing out on the sidewalk and I was holding a cardboard sign because I was trying to raise money for gas so I could make it back home to Nebraska. Again I am sorry that Hazel passed away. I know that you have always been a very good husband and that Hazel meant a lot to you.
