Obituary
MCFARLAND-Lawrence E. Odegaard, age 79, of McFarland, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2019, at UW Hospital and Clinics. He was born on Oct. 11, 1939, in Madison, the son of Clifford and Grace Odegaard. Larry graduated from Madison East High School and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he was a catcher for the UW baseball team. He married Beverly Eggerichs on April 12, 1969, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Madison. Larry worked at Provident Savings and Loan and WHEDA, retiring in 2005. His faith was important to him as he was a long-time member of Christ the King Catholic Church. Larry enjoyed traveling, watching the Badgers and Packers, and making beer with his son-in-law. He also enjoyed attending events at the Overture Center, playing cards, telling stories, but most important was spending time with his friends and family and having a spot on his lap for his grandchildren. Larry is survived by his wife, Beverly Anne Odegaard, children, Eric Odegaard, Amy (Kent) Nimocks, and Brian (Karen) Odegaard; grandchildren, Grace and Claire Odegaard, Abby and Ella Nimocks, and Leo, Eli, and Joseph Odegaard; and sister, Nancy (Ron) Westrum. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Grace Odegaard; and brother, Norman Odegaard. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at CHRIST THE KING CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5306 Main St, McFarland, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2019, with Father D. Stephen Smith presiding. Private burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens. My deepest sympathy to you, .Beverly and to your family. I am so sorry for your loss. Larry was a friend and coworker of mine at WHEDA. He was always friendly, helpful, and had a great sense of humor. He had a strong Faith, and I missed working with him when he retired. I was happy to see him a couple of years ago in Waunakee when our paths crossed at the HS orchestra concert. He had come to see his granddaughter perform.. I will always cherish the fond memories I have of Larry. He was a very special person-one of a kind.
May he rest in peace. Love and prayers, Janet McKellar

Nothing could compare to spending numerous Thanksgivings with Larry and his family. He was always happy to watch all if us kids put on some sort of performance in the living room after dinner was over. I will miss his kind smile and loving hugs. My deepest sympathies to the entire family. Larry was truly one of a kind. With all my love -Jen Nichols

Larry and I were coworkers at Provident for years . He was such a kind, conscientious good friend. He never had bad things to say about anyone and we had so much fun. Our work group wasn’t a work group it was a family. Even so we didn’t stay in touch after the Anchor merger, I will never forget him. It was always a special occasion when I ran into him. So sad I won’t be running into him anymore. My deepest condolences to his family .

We have known Larry since the early 70's, he being the loving & devoted husband to my dear friend and coworker at the time Bev. Back then we started to play Euchre and have kept playing together ever since. Through these many years we have enjoyed many times with Bev & Larry. Besides playing cards, we often went out together for Friday Fish Frys, went to Chicago to see The Lion King, to Milwaukee to see Miss Saigon and several trips to Barabo to both The Palace and Crystal Grand Music theatres and annual summer outings to Ishnala. We always had a great time together with many jokes, laughs, political discussions, and stories of our children and grandchildren shared. How does one say goodbye to this?
Those who have ever played Euchre with Larry know how skilled he was. So many times he would bid on cards most of us wouldn't attempt to, often "going alone". He occasionally would get set, but most times, astonishingly, would make it. His philosophy was to go for it all, better to make 4 points than settle on 2. Here's to you Larry and hoping you get a few more "loners' in heaven. We will miss you tremendously!
Our deepest sympathy to Bev and their children & spouses and their grandchildren. May time ease your sorrow and the many memories of Larry bring you peace.
