Obituary

COTTAGE GROVE-Terence John "Terry" Strand, age 78, of Cottage Grove, passed away peacefully at home under Agrace HospiceCare surrounded by his family on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019, after a short illness. He was born on Jan. 24, 1941, in Madison, the son of John Strand and Katherine (Wagner) Strand. Terry graduated from Monona Grove High School and joined the U.S. Navy. He married Nedeen Butterfield on Oct. 6, 1962, in Madison. The couple celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary last year. Terry's early years were spent on the family farm learning the value of hard work and building character. He worked at Madison Kipp as a diecaster. He then changed careers and worked at Jacobson's Meat Market, and he was a meat cutter at C&P grocery store until they closed, worked at El Rancho's, and then later retired from the UW Poultry Research Lab. Terry was a member of the Elks Club, Cottage Grove Historical Society, and the Model A Club. He enjoyed bird-watching, fishing, hunting, and gardening. Terry loved to spend time with family and friends and treasured the companionship of his many dogs. He enjoyed watching tv, puzzles, and popcorn. Terence is survived by wife, Nedeen; children, Romell (Tim) Swanson and David (Denise Knutson) Strand; sisters, Barb Rutledge and Kathy (Louie Firari) Strand; brothers, Jim (Alvhild) Strand and Ken (Heather) Strand; grandchildren, Drake and Kayla Strand, Josh (Tammy) Swanson, Andrea (Andy) Long, Tyler (Sarah) Swanson; seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John P. Chauncey; and brother-in-law, Don Rutledge. Per Terry's wishes, no services will be held. Memorials may be made to Terry's family, or a charity of your choosing. Terry's family would like to express special thanks to Ken, Heather, Donna and Chuck Schlimgen, Kathy, Tim, David, and the staff at Agrace HospiceCare for their help and support through Terry's illness. Terry you always had a smile and made me smile at all your yard projects. You and I had a great love of dogs.. You would even watch your neighbor's dog when they went out of town. You were a gift to all of us. Hugs to Nadeen and family. Our Symparhy Peggy, Dan and Alexis Smith .
