My heartfelt sympathy to you for your lose. What I remember of Uncle Vernon was his wonderful smile. When I saw his picture it brought back many fond memories. The last time I saw him was on my wedding day, 42 years ago. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Janice Draxler Lloyd and Doris’s daughter

Just prior to seeing Vern's death notice in the WSJ, I had thought about Vern. I grew up going to church at Buckeye and my father (Dwight Johnson) was a friend and fishing buddy of Vern's. While I never got to know Cheryl or Michelle, I remember our family having dinner with the Moe's at their house. Both Vern and Bernice were lovely people and showed a lot of hospitality. My condolences to both Cheryl and Michelle for their loss. Your father was a very good man. Tim Johnson Madison, Wis

Cheryl and Michelle: Yiota and I wish you and your families our heartfelt condolences of your father’s passing. Uncle Vernon was a very special man and husband. Though our families drifting apart over the past many years, I am sure he was a great father and grandfather as well. Most of my memories of Uncle Vernon when I was a young boy living across the street in Brentwood Village in Madison. One memory was when he would cut my brothers and my hair down in his basement. While I was awaiting my turn, I usually got into mischief by fooling around over at Uncle Vernon’s work bench. He had a very organized work bench but somehow, I usually ended up mixing up differing sizes of screws, nails, etc. together. He had a great deal of patience with me in those years! Over these past several days, I've thought back of the many fond memories of your dad especially his gentle smile. He will truly be missed. May his memory be eternal.
