Obituary

MOUNT HOREB-John Conrad Wacker, age 74, died on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019, at University Hospital, Madison, when his fight ended with pulmonary fibrosis. He was born to Wayne and Anna Mae (Klinkner) Wacker on Mar. 18, 1944. John graduated from Madison East High School in 1962. He married Ann M. Mischke in June 1965, and they had two beautiful children, Lori and John. John married Rita Stanton on November 24, 1990, and that is when the adventure began; "a great ride, but not long enough". He did many things in his work life but was best known for his ability to fix vehicles and his woodworking gifts. John loved to travel and had many good years traveling by camper with friends and family. He will be remembered for his love of family and friends and was incredibly proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchild. He will be missed for his love of expounding on life, particularly on how a carburetor works, his cooking, his laughter and his wit. John was also a lover of music. John is survived by his wife, Rita; his daughter, Lori A. Wacker; son John W. (Tina) Wacker; and his grandchildren, Tyler J. Wacker and Taylor M. Wacker. He is also survived by his siblings, other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019, at IMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 310 W. Main Street, Mount Horeb, at 4:30 p.m. with Pastor Jared Parmley presiding. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

It was much too soon for John to go, but like me, I guess someone had to go first. I will miss John's smile and subtle laugh, the latter very unique to him. He was always willing to listen to and support his friends. We enjoyed almost 30 years of camping together with our many close friends. We were also lucky enough to work in the same place for a while. I wish Rita and John's entire family the strength to move on knowing that John may be physically gone, but he will never be forgotten. Rest in peace John. We will all miss you. Kalen

Thoughts and prayers go out to John's family during This time of their great loss. I remember John from East, he was 2 years ahead of me. I grew up on Jenifer St and I believe he grew up in the Rutledge St area. Also didn't he have a younger brother by the name of Richard?

I've known John for many years as my buddy's older brother. We shared many Badger tailgates together, and we will all miss that. We all liked John for his frank, unabashed opinions, his acceptance of another's view and his chuckle. I'm grateful for having known John and his family. Best Wishes Bob Lochner

John told wonderful stories, shared his views with passion, had an infectious laugh and gave the best damn hugs! We will remember him fondly and truly feel honored to have known such a caring man! Martina and Eric (Fellow MOC campers and friends)
