MADISON-John F. “Jack” Zirngible, age 70, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019 at Agrace HospiceCare. He was born on Oct. 29, 1948, in Eau Claire, the son of Lawrence and Agatha (Niggemann) Zirngible. Jack graduated from Regis High School in Eau Claire. Jack worked for many years as a carpenter, specializing in drywall installation, retiring in 2008. He was a proud member of Carpenters Local Union No. 314. He was a longtime member of Skilaufers, loved playing pickleball, volleyball, and in later years bridge, euchre, and sheepshead. As a child, Jack had a passion for ski jumping and attended Nationals. I was both a grade school and high school classmate of Jack's. He was always one of the shortest kids in our 8th grade class so I was quite surprised at an early high school reunion that he had gotten quite tall! I had some contact with Jack after both of your parents died. I encouraged him to come to another reunion. He always answered back, but politely declined. When my family moved to Dewey Street, we became "almost" Mt Simon kids just across the railway wooden overpass on Eddy. Thinking of Jack brought many memories of coming to the skating rink (even on a school night!) and playing sand lot softball with the girls (Nancy Soley and others) at the Mt Simon summer playground. Not everyone had their own glove, there were no scoreboards or bathrooms, but we had a grand time on the hill. Dan was in my sister Patty's class. Jane and maybe Ruthie were in Girls Scouts with me. One of my summer jobs was to work at the Mt Simon playground as activities director. I recall that some of the older neighborhood girls (a Monson, maybe?) would bring Theresa to the playground, not quite old enough to be there, but well cared for by the older girls. Sometimes her only words were, "I'm shy." One of the brothers had boys in Little League at the same time my boys played (probably in the 80's). And of course the original Thundermen were the band to watch and dance to. (Was that Mick or Ron?) I think Mick) So our paths have crossed in many ways over the years. It's has been quite a long time since I've seen Jack and maybe would not have recognized him from this picture. But a closer look shows that gentle twinkle in his eyes that surely must have stayed there for family and grand kids. Rest in Peace, Jack! As we mourn Jack's loss, we also can reflect on the all the ways his life may have interacted and blessed our own. My condolences to all of Jack's family. Sincerely, Cathy (Dresden) McCann PS: The Regis Class of 1966 has a website through classcreator.com that has posted Jack's obituary. Classmates can leave thoughts and memories of Jack there.

Jack dry walled a room in my former house. It was the first time I had hire a pro to help me with my house. I thought I would see allot of him. In one day on some funky stilts he flew in through the window a shocking amount of drywall. Threw it up on the wall and taped it in a matter of minutes! It would have taken me days, weeks. I was so thankful and mightily impressed. Thank you Jack!
