Gretchen was one of the kindest most genuine people I have ever met! This angel came into my life when she invited me to join WIC! Always kind and ready to help anyone in need, she will truly be missed! My condolences to her family!

I met Gretchen through the Women's Initiatives Committee (WIC) at the City of Madison. Gretchen had such a big heart and always went out of her way to help others in need. She was always one of the first ones to volunteer her time and her cooking skills (we loved her pies!) to raise money for WIC's various programs. This is such a shock. My heart goes out to her friends and family at this difficult time. She was loved and will always be remembered.

Gretchen & Jim were the most "in love" couple I have ever photographed. She transformed the Assembly Chamber in the Capitol and the ESBMA for their 9/16/2000 wedding like no other bride could-with her joy, creativity, incredibly hard work, and attention to detail. All these years, every time I saw them together they still shared their amazing love for each other. She was such a wonderful gardener as well, transforming their home & yard for the birds & squirrels, and for every holiday. It was always a treat to go by. Jim & family, I'm so sorry for your loss. I will never forget her energy & smile.

It is such a shock to learn of Gretchen's passing. The world, and especially Monona, will miss her love for nature and persistent optimism even when everyone else around her has thrown in the towel. Pie-maker extraordinaire, exceptional speller, exuberant user of LOL, and kind compassionate woman... that is how I will always remember her. Gretchen exemplified taking the high road, always telling the truth, and doing the right thing.
