Bill was one of my oldest friends back to when the Zart family lived just up the road from our place in Grant county, Wisconsin. We were maybe about six or seven years old at the time, and I stayed overnight at the Zart family home several times. Adam moved the family away to the Lancaster area, and I sort of lot touch with Bill for a few years, until he came to work for his brother Karl, who lived on the Pine Knob farm in the Annaton area. Bill was going to Livingston high school at the time, when in the spring of he year, he had a strong disagreement with Karl, and Karl kicked him out. Bill then cam to stay with our family for the few weeks until the school year was ended, and probably, that is when I encouraged Bill to remain in school, until he graduated, as none of his brothers had ever finished high school. He later moved over near Fennimore and stayed with his brother Robert until he graduated in Class of 1955. Bill had been captain of the football team his senior year, one of the most successful years Fennimore had in years.
Rest in peace, old friend.

My sincere condolences to the Bill Zart family. Bill and I were in the same class at Fennimore High School. Though I have not seen Bill for many many years (and I was not nearly as close to him as Abe Loy (see below) we were in AG shop together and worked on my old John Deere B in our Junior year (it was the same John Deere that occasionally got tobacco juice spit into the gas tank by, well, who knows). I have particularly enjoyed Bill's posts on facebook in recent years and talked to him via that medium now
and then. I am sincerely saddened by his passing as I realize how old we all have become. Rest in Peace, Bill. Gene Fitzgerald
