Obituary
MIDDLETON - Duane L. Barmore passed away at home on Thursday, April 4, 2024. He was born on Jan. 30, 1945, to Theora and Donald Barmore in Monroe, Wis. His youngest years were spent in Monroe and Middleton, Wis., and Phoenix, Ariz. He met the love of his life at Picnic Point in 1962, at the age of 16. He and Aleta (Jackson) were married in August four years later.
Duane was employed by PDQ Food Stores for 20 years where he served in many capacities culminating in store design and site selection. He and Aleta then owned and operated the specialty store, Chickadee Depot, for 15 years prior to his retirement in 2007.
He enjoyed serving his community over many years - in Jaycees, as an Assistant Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 140, as a Middleton Optimist, and he proudly served on the City of Middleton Plan Commission, Middleton Westport Joint Plan Commission, and the Community Development Authority. Other activities included the Middleton Recycling Committee, Police Commission, Community Foundation, Zoning Board of Appeals and FUDA.
He loved being in nature, birding, camping with his family, travelling, and following politics. He was an outstanding cook and nurtured others through his beautiful meals. His happy places were his kitchens, both indoor and out.
Despite many health challenges, he always had a smile and was thankful for every day. He will be remembered as a loving, kind, thoughtful, and caring soul.
He is survived by his wife, Aleta; their sons, Ken (Tamara Abraham) and Greg (Tina Manke); grandchildren, Amanda Barmore, Zoe (Jake) Hurr, Benjamin and Nicholas Barmore, and Braydon Manke; brother, Donald of Madison; sister, Rebecca Sheridan of Montana; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; brother, David; sister-in-law, Judith; and many uncles and aunts.
Duane will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at the Natural Path Sanctuary. A gathering for family and friends will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Capital Brewery in Middleton.
