Obituary
DEERFIELD-Brian D. Maloney, age 59, passed away Monday, Dec. 3, 2018, at UW Hospital in Madison. He was born on Aug.16, 1959, in Madison, the son of Patrick and Enid (Siewerth) Maloney. Brian graduated from La Follette High School, Class of 1977, studied Limnology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and was the proud owner of Aquarius Pets on Monona Drive from 1981 to 1997. He married his beloved wife Mary Weber on Feb. 16, 1997, in Las Vegas. Brian liked to collect and restore antiques, travelling to auctions around the Midwest, and was a journalist for the Auction Action Antique News. He and Mary were avid gardeners, landscapers and did native land restoration on their rural property in Deerfield. Brian was a caring and kind person, who was passionate about nature, the environment, his pets, and all the creatures he cared for, which could range from fish, birds, cats, and even chickens. Anyone who knew Brian remarked on how intelligent and insightful he was. He was an ardent reader, had the mind of an engineer and could design or fix just about anything. Brian is survived by his wife, Mary; many in-laws of the Weber family; sister, Laurie (Armund) Bartz; brother, Kevin Maloney; niece, Amber Maloney; and friend, Jim Mackman. He was preceded in death by his parents. Per Brian’s wishes, there will be no service; however, the family will have a friends and family gathering next summer. Donations in honor of Brian can be made to the Dane County Humane Society. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

Brian will always be my favorite employer. Brian was always fair and cared a great deal about his employees. Even after I had moved on to being a teacher in Hawaii Brian made a custom acrylic light hood for the 75 gallon tank I had in my classroom. Aquarius Pets, Brian, Mary and all the great people I had the pleasure of working with will always have a a special place in my heart.

We have missed seeing Brian at our antiques shows the last few years after his illness no longer allowed him to cover the Fox Valley Antiques Show and the Wisconsin Antiques Dealers Association Show for Auction Action. He had a knack for picking out the best thing in your booth and photographing it for the press release. And, of course, he had a way with words. Brian knew his stuff. Jim and I will miss seeing Brian work his way through our shows, booth by booth. His visit to our booth was always one of the highlights of our shows. Rest in peace, Brian.

Brian was an amazing business man and friend. He was always thinking and questioning everything which gave him an interesting outlook on life. Whenever I see a classic station wagon I think of him!
Not only did Brian have exceptional taste in reliable, roomy vehicles, Brian chose good people as employees which led to good friendships for us as well as an Aquarius Pets Facebook group. I haven't worked anywhere else where a former business has a current facebook page which wasn't even created by the owner!
Thank-you Brian and Mary for dropping by to visit me in Cambridge when you went grocery shopping. You didn't have to wait until you saw me out in the yard. You could have knocked. I would have been happy to see you!
Mary I am worried about you all alone out on the farm. I know you lost your best friend. I hope you have a lot of supportive people around you. Please call me if you need help with anything. I'm usually in Cambridge on the weekends. Hang in there. I'm sorry I didn't get to say "goodbye."

Oh dear. I feel so many things. Brian, you were one of the best and first friends I ever had. I remember so affectionately of the three of us playing cars and trucks in the sandbox. At preschool age, you knew everything about dinosaurs. I was so impressed. You had your own science lab in the house you grew up! It was there that you built a bomb that blew off all your eyebrows. There was no shortage of learning in that house! You also lived right across the street from another outdoor lab. A sort of sand Quarry pit. We would hunt for pollywogs and tadpoles among all the young Cottontail saplings that grew there. Then there were the basement games of Poker while listening to albums of the Jackson 5. I have way too many memories to list here. And now I turn my focus to those left behind. Kevin and Laurie, you have suffered a great loss. First your mother, then Brian. He was such a stable person, and a great caretaker. I'm so glad I got to see him as an adult in recent years. Mary, I never got to meet you. But if I know anything, it is that you will overcome. My best wishes and warmest affections to everyone. Brian will not be forgotten.
