Louis A Schulenberg

I remember Mr. Schulenberg always sitting outside with his dogs. I use to walk by his house at least six times a week. I would be walking my brothers prized dog. Bear would always like to say hello in his friendly doggie way. If I am correct, I think he had a beagle named Daisy. Bear would just like to kiss her or play chase each other. Mr. Schulenberg would always get upset with his dog because she would leave the yard. I would remind him they were just dogs having fun in their own world. I think he wanted to make sure his dogs were not a bother. After a few disagreements and yelling matches, I think we found an understanding with each other. The other thing I remember were his beautiful garden full of vegetables. He tended to those gardens like they were a work of art. Every row perfect and a weed knew better than to grow there. My Mother was also a garden lover. She would walk with Bear and I from time to time. One particular afternoon she was studying his garden. He came over and the two of them had a grand conversation. You could see the pride in his face. He gave her some of his produce and she was grateful. Something so simple as a plot of Earth filled with vegetables brought such Joy to others. I got to know his daughter as she lived across the hall from me. She loved animals like her Father. She made sure to feed the cats that lived across the way from us. There is something special about someone who cared enough, to feed the cats that did not belong to anybody. I wish Michelle strength and a sense of gratitude. She left her apartment to help her Dad. That was her gift to her Father. I hope she will find peace in knowing she was there for him, just like the cats. I send her my love. I wish rest for his labor and safe repose for his soul. ~Robin Kroetz
