Obituary

MADISON - Betty Jane Viney, age 88, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2026. She was born on February 6, 1938, in Eden Township, Iowa County, WI, the daughter of Henry and Ruth (Nelson) Tomas.


Betty graduated from Dodgeville High School in 1955. She worked for Wisconsin Bell/Ameritech/AT&T, retiring in the early 1990s.


Betty found joy in many creative pursuits, including cooking, baking, sewing, crafting, knitting, crocheting, and caring for her collection of houseplants. She also had a special fondness for polka dancing.


Betty  is survived by her children, Kim Viney, Maria (Samuel) Stuessy, Brent Viney, Jannan (Todd) Kosak and Martha Viney; sister, Shirley Lewis; six grandchildren, Robert (Sara) Stuessy, Nicole (Jeffrey) McNeely, Josh (Melissa) Kosak, Tom (Carly) Stuessy, Chelsea (Bryan) Machotka and Jacob (Stephanie Klinger) Stuessy; great-grandchildren, Jase, Madelyn, Tessa, Lillian, Maysen, Mayve, Charlie and Sylvie; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Ruth; son-in-law, Dale Norris; brother and sister-in-law, Clifford (Barb) Tomas; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Lewis.


The family would like to thank Agrace HospiceCare nurses Lynnette and Calista and social workers Jodie and Rose; SSM Health/Dean Dr. Amy Daley and Dr. Jaiteh, and N.P. Kelly Wisch; and all the Sage Meadows/Hattie’s Bay staff for their great care.


Private family burial will follow at a later date.
